Rural life in Idaho is being threatened! This is a call to action for White Bird Idaho residents to write their elected officials about keeping the regional Lewiston- Nez Perce (LWS) County Airport open!

LWS could be on the chopping block!

Robin Turner , Airport Manager of the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport Authority, recently distributed an email regarding the Dept. of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) may target rural air traffic control towers for closure….. once again.

While our senators and representatives have been very supportive of efforts to keep FAA contract towers open, such as LWS, through the end of September 2013 – and both Houses of Congress are firmly on record in support of keeping contract towers open and operational beyond September 30 – it is not clear at this point if those measures will be enacted into law by October 1, 2013.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Mr. Turner explained that at a recent meeting, FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, identified specific examples of shrinking services.  These included phased out funding for contract towers with the explanation that “this allows FAA to target remaining resources to serve the largest number of passengers at the most utilized locations.” Translated, this means urban, highly-populated areas trump rural communities.

Contact (call or write) your representatives and senators and ask them to fight for the FAA Contract Tower Program .
