The Luck of the Irish is in White Bird!

“It would take more lucky shamrocks than Ireland ever grew to bring luck and gladness that I’m always wishing you.”

WHITE BIRD, ID – Sunday March 16
Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day in White Bird at the 7th Annual Joe Wilson St. Paddy’s Day Sausage Feed.  It’s held at the beautiful old IOOF Hall in downtown White Bird from 7:30 am to Noon (PDT).  Cost is $8/adult and $4/youngster.

Joe Wilson at St. Paddy's Day Sausage Feed in White Bird Idaho The Old Time Fiddlers will be a feisty bunch this year on the stage of the IOOF main dining hall as they serenade us all morning long.  Hot sausage fresh from the grill, scrambled eggs from the kitchen and steaming hotpancakes from the stove will be served all morning – family style.  The hot coffee will be flowingand orange juice for everyone.

We named this event the ‘Joe Wilson’ St. Paddy’s Day Sausage Feed because Joe – way back when he was younger a few years ago – thought that White Bird needed a Sausage Feed.  He was always impressed with the spread the Clearwater folks put on in early February.  So, a bunch of us decided to give it a go in 2007 and picked mid March to theme it with St. Paddy’s Day.  Then we threw in Joe’s name for good luck.  And it worked!

Now in 2014, it’s the 7th Annual Sausage Feed!

Everybody loves the Irish – so I’m told – and everyone in White Bird seems to love this event.

Lots of volunteers line up to help serve the family style breakfast.  The kitchen of the IOOF Hall is a busy place with Beth and Shawn at the hotcake grill, Dianne, Barb & Chris scrambling the eggs, and Steve at the steam table.  Duane & Bryan will be outside at the grill, cooking the sausage patties to perfection.

Vicki gets the coffee going and Gloria, Mandy, Dot, Becky, Linda, Betty and lots of others keep the food served and the tables cleaned.  Shandra will be helping people take home fresh sausage in 4 lb chubs, each for a donation price. Bruce and Pat are at the door taking tickets.  A ton of other folks are on cleanup.  The local ladies group storms the IOOF Hall on Saturday, setting up the tables, decorating everything with a St. Paddy’s flair and even decorating the walls with hand-painted aprons for a special look.

We hope to serve over 300 breakfasts this year, so come join us and help us break our record!

May the luck of the Irish always be with you!
